Kids in Play - Group Work Session 2025

Overview

Kids in Play supports children whose parent/s are incarcerated. Our Social Workers conduct group activities for the children across 7 Saturday afternoons a year to help the children in their development and to provide a safe space for them to express themselves. Volunteers are required to support staff in engaging the kids during these sessions.

We support children and youths from 5 to 18 years of age.

Volunteers will work under the direction of staff and will not be required to work independently.

Sessions will be held on 4 January, 1 February, 5 April, 3 May, 5 July, 2 August & 4 September. Sessions will run from 1.30pm - 5.30pm & volunteers are required to commit to at least 5 sessions.

Overview

Volunteers will be tagged to an age group depending on preference & also needs of each group.\r\n

Children between 5 - 18 years old: Volunteers will be supporting the staff during group work sessions. Volunteers may be involved in facilitating group activities for the program and in leading small group discussions with the children. \r\n
There are 4 age groups: 5 - 7 years old, 8 - 11 years old, 12 - 14 years old & 15 - 18 years old.

Children below 5 years old: Volunteer's role is to supervise and play with young children using available toys and resources, as well as to provide a helping hand to caregivers handling multiple young children if needed.
